Hello Substack!
According to my Third Grade report card, I listen attentively, talk too much, and play well with others. Years later, the same characteristics apply, proving my theory we’re all just big kids. So how do I use my powers for good?
I am an artist and writer on a mission to inspire others to live mindfully.
I've had my hands in a myriad of creative endeavors, primarily writing, photography and jewelry. For five years, I co-owned a furniture company, taking a 5,000 square-foot space filled with air to a full-fledged woodshop, furnished with equipment, employees, toilet paper, and coffee. Afterward, I designed and manufactured jewelry made of precious metals, pearls, and gemstones. And then my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
At the Crossroads of Death and Creativity
In 2010, I promised my father I would hold his hand and walk him to the pearly gates. Caring for him during his final days taught me to appreciate the simple, everyday moments. I traded jewelry for journaling and rediscovered my love of writing. It became my panacea for grief and a way to share mindful moments with others.
My recent experience caring for my mother in her final months underscored the importance of practicing gratitude. To find appreciation in the light, as well as the dark. To experience joy, even in the midst of uncertainty.
It is from this intersection I share my optimism, light and reflection. By sharing my mindful moments, I want to inspire you to find yours. I will share a post every month— something to appreciate and something to ponder.
